Why an elephant consultant?
In some Zoos today, elephant managing has declined, often resulting in:
- Unclear rules for elephants and staff
- unmotivated brutality
- elephant and human accidents
- skin-, foot-, and behavior problems.
- unhappy animals
- public criticism
- internal staff problems
- And the intelligent elephants get bored and restless.
- Public visitors wants visual evidence that the elephants are satisfied with their living.
- Elephants are among the most popular animals in Zoos, but also the most criticized.
- Experienced trainers that keep the traditions alive, has unfortunately limited opportunities to assist other Zoos and their staff, with more long-term tutoring, or training programs.
- There might also be problems with staff shortage during vacations, or limited competence.
- When inexperienced staff are used during such periods, accidents occur more often.
- Elephant problems are best solved, in view of modern sights carefully combined with 4 000 years of traditions, but this has a tendency of being either neglected or matter of personal experiments, when someone wants to profile themself with something "new", which later may cost pain and lifes.
All those problems brings in the end consequences for the elephants, and for the Zoo.
