Curriculum vitae Dan Koehl
- 1972-1976: Assistant shepheard at Gardet, Stockholm, with 600 sheep and working bordercollies.
- 1975-1976: salesman and responsible for aquarium department at Mammut Zoo, Stockholm, Sweden.
- 1976-1979: Upper secondary school for Zookeepers in Stockholm, Sweden, with practice in Zoos and Veterinary institutes.
- 1976-1983 Working as vacation assistant elephant keeper during weekends and summers.
- 1977: Practice as bullhand at Circus Scott-Bronett in Sweden. (Under Banda Vidane, later chief trainer at Cirkus Krone in Munich).
- 1977: 4 months studies in Sri Lanka; Udugama Playwood corporation elephant camp, other timber camps, temples, Pinnawela elephant orphanage.
- 1983 Employed as elephant handler at Skansen Zoological Gardens, Stockholm, Sweden.
- 1984: Practice in Elephanthouse, Hannover Zoo, Germany, under Elephant headkeeper Rolf Amelung.
- 1985: Practice in Elephanthouse, Hagenbecks Tierpark (Zoo) in Hamburg, Germany, under Elephant headkeeper Karl Kock.
- 1985: Practice in Elephanthouse, Boras Zoo in Sweden.
- 1986-1992 Head elephant keeper at Skansen. (Elephants were sold 1992)
- 1987 and 1989: 3+3 months studies in India and Thailand; camps, Zoos, and Vet.Colleges
- 1991: Course in anaesthetic´s. (License to sedate at distance)
- 1992: Practice in Elephanthouse, Hellabrunn Tierpark, (Münich Zoo) Germany.
- Summer 1997 on project at Borås Zoo, Sweden with 1.3 African elephants
- January 23-November 23 1998 on project including establishing new elephant team, bull protected contact training, free contact training of previously off-hand 13 year elephant, footcare etc, at Schönbrunner Tiergartens, (Vienna Zoo) Austria with 1,5 African elephants.
- February 01-Augusti 01 1999 on project at Dresden Zoo, Germany, with 0,1 Asian and 0.4 African elephants
- 20 November-9 December 1999: tutoring keeper, training 0.1 african elephant, and footcare at Zoolandia, Finland, with 0,1 African elephant, design of website www.zoolandia.fi
- 17 April-30 August 2000: On project at Kolmårdens Zoo , Sweden, with 1,5 Asian elephants. Daily care, training shows, children riding operations
- 31 October 2000-30 August 2001: Elephant stable master at Circus Krone in Germany, with 0.5 Asian elephants and 0.3 african elephants. General responsibilty for the elephant management, training and care, as well as the exotic animals and their staff.
- 15 September 2002-15 may 2003: project in Walding Zoo, Austria, with 0.2 private Asian elephants, during owners operation and rehabilitaion. Training elephants for ultrasound, medical treatments etc.
- 1 Feb 2004-20 august 2004: project for Mr Basil Steyn at Sondelani Wildlife Game Lodge, West Nicholson, Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, with 6.14 african elephants, training of 8 (7 wildcaught, 1 captive born) elephants for safari riding project, design of website www.sondelani.com
- 6,7,8 September 2004: Inspection of 0.5 asian elephants at Circus Giovanni Althoff, Germany, on behalf of TIERART (Tier und artenschutzstation) in Rheinland-Pfalz, Germany
- November & December 2005: trained another two teenager wildcaught elephants (1,1), as well as introducing 3 newbought adults, (2,1) for Mr Basil Steyn at Sondelani Wildlife Game Lodge
- 20th March-20th May 2006: assisted in transport of 15 elephants from Sondelani Wildlife Game Lodge in south Zimbabwe to Victoria Falls in northern Zimbabwe. Resettling elephants at new site, etc.
- 1st October 2007 June 2009: Employed as elephant keeper at Kolmarden Zoo (Kolmårdens djurpark), Sweden, with 0,3 Asian elephants.
- June 2009-December 2010: Digital information and renewal of website at Tropicarium Kolmarden, Sweden
- 18 Jan 2010-18 April 2010: Consulting elephant keeper at Karlsruhe Zoo, Germany, with 0,4 Asian elephants.
